Polaris Slingshot Problems Continue

December 24, 2014

The much anticipated Polaris Slingshot is continuing to have problems with its release. Texas and Connecticut are standing firm with their definitions of motorcycles vs cars. These states are arguing that the new 3 wheeled vehicle doesn't meet the qualifications to be registered as a motorcycle. This is causing some delay in sales for Polaris who worked very hard on marketing and production of these vehicles in the last few years.

We do believe that these vehicles should be registered and sold in those states, although states will need to provide some sort of classification for 3 wheeled vehicles. In most states the classifications simply states that if the vehicle has less than 4 wheels then its classified as a motorcycle. Some states also have regulations and special licenses for motorcycle vs 3 wheeled vehicles and cars.

Due to licensing differences between states there may be  problems when traveling with a 3 wheeled vehicle. Even though you are legal to operate the vehicle in your state when traveling you may not be legal to operate the vehicle in another state. Check the laws in states you plan to be driving or riding in.
